Heads Up I Diane MacAndrew
FIM: The wells in this room are ideal canvas for to design esthetic you came up with. How did you create them?
DM: We work as a team at Marc-Michaels, and we have fabulous designers who create these beautiful backdrops for us. In this case, Lindsey Retharkova designed the paneling on the walls and also the circular ceiling You'll notice the paneling works perfectly with everything around it.
How is the bed going to fit? How is the artwork going to hang? Those are all questions that Lindsey really thinks through. We're so fortunate to have such talented people working with us, and it's really a collaborative effort. We wanted to create a neutral but classic detail that would work with any
furniture and taste. Every project starts with an empty box. so the layering of panels, furniture, lighting and details is an important part of the process, and really what I think we do best.
FIM: In this case, you integrated an oval coffer in the ceiling. Why did you decide to incorporate that into the design plan of the room?
DM: The oval softens the room. it's a classical shape that works perfectly here and adds a special touch that just makes the room pop. There were already so many hard angles in the bedroom once the paneling was complete. And it's a bedroom! You want to feel relaxed and at ease. We called on Palm City Milwork for both the paneling and the ceiling molding. We work with them often and they always come through for us.
FIM: Was there a specific lighting configuration created to highlight the design work in the ceiling?
DM: A room this size always benefits from a beautiful chandelier. More than just providing light, it gives shape and interest to the room as a whole. We ordered the one here from Capitol Lighting in Boca Raton. They carry a large variety of brands and have a talented helpful staff. Apart from that, a few can lights were used for driect illumination.
FIM: Was the headboard of the bed customized for the bedroom suite?
DM: Yes, we designed the shape and Interiors by Beverly in Winter Park handled the execution. She does excellent work. We designed the headboard with the ceiling in mind, actually it reinforces the soft circular theme of the coffer. The fabric and colors of it are soft and ethereal. It has an inviting quality to it, and we repeat the same blue throughout the room in the throw pillows and draperies. |
